International Symposium on Cultural Pragmatics and Migration Linguistics

Hosted by Zhengdao Ye (SLLL, Australian National University) and Carsten Levisen (Roskilde U. & Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies) this international symposium on migration linguistics, takes a meaning-centered approach to the interplay of language, culture and human migration.

Drawing on research in cultural pragmatics, linguistic ethnography, applied semantics and life writing, we examine how linguistic worldviews are shaped, contested and transformed through linguacultural encounters. Bringing together Australian and Nordic scholarship, this full-day symposium explores how meanings are created, negotiated, silenced or acquired in the lived realities of migration. Beyond descriptive inquiry, a key aim is to articulate methodologies that not only analyse but also empower migrants and foster intercultural understanding.

See program attached for topics and speaker details

*This symposium is partially funded by an ANU Hansen Scandinavian Friendship Grant.
